 About Consciousness-Based Education: Other Consciousness-Based Education Programs In the last twenty years, over 200 schools on every continent around the world have adopted Consciousness-Based education programs: from inner-city USA to the Netherlands and the UK, from Canada to South Africa. In each of these institutions, students, teachers, and administrators are pausing each day to experience the restful alertness of the Transcendental Meditation technique. The first complete system of Consciousness-Based education was developed in Fairfield, Iowa, on the campus of Maharishi University of Management. Here, for the last 18 years, students from preschool to Ph.D. have gained the benefits of this unique means to develop the full potential of the individual. The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment (over 600 students, preschool through grade twelve) is approved by the Iowa Department of Education and accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States. Its students have won dozens of state championships in science, math, history, drama, art, and sports competitions. Adele Sands, Executive Director of the Head Mistresses Association of the East, commented, "My visit to this consciousness-based school filled me with wonder that so much could be accomplished in a school day. It is a place of educational magic, where there is true joy and love of learning. Never have I seen students so enthralled by every challenge presented, or so talented and creative in the arts. It is a place of energy, vitality, and love!" At Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in England, students score nationally above the 97th percentile in academic tests and have won many creative writing contests. For example, In 1995 and 1996, MSAE-England students on nine occasions won the national Times Educational Supplement Young Poet of the Week competition. Only one other school has won this competition more than twice. Of the three students in the nation who have won this award more than twice, two are from Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment.
